Reconsider the care assumption
Go to the board record yourself.
Kansas licensing routes as of October 1, 2026.
The Board of Healing Arts licenses Kansas doctors and physician assistants. The Board of Nursing licenses nurse practitioners.
Nurse practitioners are nurses qualified to assess your health and prescribe medicines.
This job needs an advanced practice nursing licence: permission for those additional nursing duties. The board uses APRN, short for advanced practice registered nurse.
Match the name to the right record
Ask for the full professional name and licence number. Search the board for that profession. Check if the licence remains current, then look for any board-listed penalties, restrictions or pending disciplinary charges.
The Healing Arts licence search can lag behind recent board decisions. Its Board Actions list has the more current decisions about licence holders. Ask the board whether a listed decision limits the person’s permission to treat you.
The Nursing Board and Pharmacy Board have separate online verification systems.
Use the pharmacy name that appears on the medicine label, and compare it with the name you were given before paying.
Understand the job title
A nurse practitioner
As of October 1, 2026, a Kansas nurse practitioner may prescribe medicines that fit their nursing job and the patients they are licensed to treat. The law does not require a doctor’s written instructions for prescribing. Ask which medicines they may prescribe for your care.
A physician assistant
PA means physician assistant. Ask the person you will see how their role fits the care being offered.
Kansas physician assistants still work under a supervising doctor and prescribe through a written agreement.
A law changing the PA arrangement begins January 1, 2027; it is not the rule in force at this date.
A licence is a starting point
A record with no public penalties or restrictions does not prove good care.
FDA means Food and Drug Administration. FDA registration means a facility is recorded with that agency. Under federal rules as of September 26, 2026, that does not mean FDA approves the facility or its medicines.
The Federal Trade Commission cautions that official-looking seals and guarantees on health sites can be faked.
Take this with you
Words to start the conversation
- What name and profession will appear in the board search?
- Does the medicine label name the same pharmacy?
- Who at the board can explain a licence status or decision I do not understand?
