Take this with you
Words to start the conversation
- Who is responsible for my assessment?
- How can I check your permission to treat me in Kansas?
- Which pharmacy will send the medicine?
Reconsider the care assumption
Your location matters.
Kansas access rules as of October 1, 2026.
Kansas treats an online medical visit as taking place where the patient is located.
For a visit while you are in Kansas, ask how the person treating you has permission to provide care in Kansas.
Choose a visit, then check it
Office or online?
An in-person clinic offers a conversation in a room. Ask how an examination, any tests and later questions would be handled.
Care provided remotely, including an online visit, is called telehealth. Ask who reviews your health history and where you could be examined in person if needed.
What the assessment must cover
Kansas allows the person treating you to begin your care through an online visit. The same rules for medical care and professional conduct apply as in an office.
Medical-board guidance calls for an assessment that gathers the needed health information and allows follow-up questions. If a test or examination is needed, the doctor must arrange it or refer you.
What a licence can tell you
A licence check answers one part of the question. A record with no public penalties or restrictions does not prove how well someone provides care.
The state line does not disappear
A doctor treating you from elsewhere
Kansas law includes a special permit for online care by doctors licensed in another state. It is called a telemedicine waiver. Whether the board is issuing these permits now is unconfirmed.
If a doctor cites a waiver, ask the Board of Healing Arts how to confirm it. Do not treat the claim alone as confirmation.
A pharmacy sending medicine into Kansas
Normally, a pharmacy in another state needs Kansas Board of Pharmacy permission, called registration, before sending prescription medicine to Kansas. The board may excuse some refills of prescriptions first filled in the pharmacy’s own state, and occasional orders called isolated transactions.
Look for a current Kansas registration for that pharmacy. If the record is missing, expired or shows limits, ask the board what it means for your shipment.
If a pharmacy claims an exception, ask the board whether it applies to your order. Placing just one order does not confirm an exception.
Ask for the pharmacy name before the first shipment, even if the service handling the visit is familiar.
